An Introduction
Since at least the second century, Christians have set aside time to fast and pray in preparation for the celebration of Resurrection Sunday (Easter). By the fourth century, this season had come to be marked by forty days: a biblical number often associated with testing and purification, recalling Israel’s forty years in the wilderness and, especially, Christ’s forty-day fast in the desert where He was tempted.

This season was first observed primarily by new converts preparing for baptism on Easter Sunday, but it soon came to include the whole church. By the sixth century, the Roman Church had established formal rules and requirements for the forty-plus-day season.

For the next forty days, our church invites you to do something simpler and quieter: to set aside distractions and fix your eyes on Christ. This guide is offered as a companion for that journey—providing focus and structure without overburdening your life.

Rather than adding more activity, Watch & Pray invites you into a steady rhythm shaped by Scripture, prayer, fasting, and hope.

Weekly Rhythm
Sunday — Gathering
The Lord’s Day anchors the week. We begin not with effort, but with worship—hearing God’s Word and joining His people.
Monday — Devotion: The Greatness of God
We lift our eyes from ourselves and remember who God is. Pastor Reed will provide these devotions.
Tuesday — Devotion: The Character of Christ
We fix our gaze on Jesus, learning again what it means to walk like Him. Pastor Ryan will provide these devotions.
Wednesday — Fast (Sunrise to Sunset)
As you are able, we practice fasting as an act of dependence: to hunger for God above all else. We encourage wisdom on how you fast.
Thursday — Prayer: 5+
We pray intentionally for those God has placed in our lives who do not yet know Christ, asking Him to prepare hearts & open doors for invitation to Easter service.
Friday — Devotion: Life in the Spirit
We are reminded that transformation is not achieved by effort alone, but by the work of the Holy Spirit within us. Elder Eddie will provide these devotions.
