Hark The Herald Angel Sing - part 2
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!
The question ever since the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden has been; can the sinner be made right with God? Yes, the answer in Jesus Christ is ‘Yes’! The great multitude of angels called forth to the hillside all those years ago:
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” Luke 2:14
Peace had come to earth. A compassionate and embracing peace, the savior born who is Christ the Lord!
The peace between God and sinners, the mercy of God which accomplished, it are raised forth for our consideration in this hymn. Sin which is by its nature rejection of and rebellion against God our creator had sealed us for condemnation. As sinners we choose death, we choose our own autonomous destruction. We find ourselves broken, consumed, and falling.
“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ- by grace you have been saved” Ephesians 2:4-5
This is good news! This is glad tidings! And at it’s core the phrase “together with Christ” or as we sing God and sinners reconciled. Brothers and Sisters in Christ we have been brought back together with God, we have been reconciled by God’s mercy through Jesus!
Pray this season for the peace of God to rule in your heart (Col 3:15). Draw close and be reconciled to God as He draws you close by the mercy of Christ.
