Turn & Live! – Four Truths from Ezekiel 18

1. The Soul Who Sins Shall Die (vv.1–4)

Key Idea: We are responsible for our own sins.
  • Israel quoted a proverb to avoid responsibility.
  • God ends the excuse: Every soul belongs to Him, and He judges justly.

Takeaways:
✅ We each stand personally accountable before God.
✅ Don’t confuse generational consequences with generational guilt.

2. The Lord Judges Individuals (vv.5–20)

Key Idea: Righteousness and wickedness are not inherited.
  • God honors the righteous life (vv.5–9)
  • God judges the wicked, even if their father was righteous (vv.10–13)
  • God shows mercy to the one who turns from their family's sins (vv.14–20)

Takeaways:
✅ Godly parents can have ungodly children — and vice versa.
✅ Your background doesn’t define your future.

3. The Lord Desires Repentance (vv.21–24)

Key Idea: God’s heart is for sinners to turn and live.
  • God doesn’t delight in punishment — He wants the wicked to turn.
  • A chiasm highlights God’s desire for repentance (v.23 at the center).
  • Past righteousness won’t save present rebellion.

Takeaways:
✅ No one is beyond the reach of God’s mercy.
✅ If this is God’s heart, it must be ours too.

4. The Soul Who Turns Shall Live (vv.25–32)

Key Idea: God’s justice is perfect — and His invitation is open.
  • We often accuse God of injustice — but the fault is in us.
  • God calls us to new hearts and new spirits.
  • His final word is grace: “Turn and live!”

Takeaways:
✅ God never compromises His justice — nor withholds His mercy.
✅ The invitation still stands: Turn & Live!
