Text: Ezekiel 18
Intro: “That’s Not Fair!”
1. The Soul Who Sins Shall Die (vv.1–4)
Key Idea: We are responsible for our own sins.
Takeaways:
✅ We each stand personally accountable before God.
✅ Don’t confuse generational consequences with generational guilt.
2. The Lord Judges Individuals (vv.5–20)
Key Idea: Righteousness and wickedness are not inherited.
Takeaways:
✅ Godly parents can have ungodly children — and vice versa.
✅ Your background doesn’t define your future.
3. The Lord Desires Repentance (vv.21–24)
Key Idea: God’s heart is for sinners to turn and live.
Takeaways:
✅ No one is beyond the reach of God’s mercy.
✅ If this is God’s heart, it must be ours too.
4. The Soul Who Turns Shall Live (vv.25–32)
Key Idea: God’s justice is perfect — and His invitation is open.
Takeaways:
✅ God never compromises His justice — nor withholds His mercy.
✅ The invitation still stands: Turn & Live!
Part 7 – Turn & Live!
Text: Ezekiel 18
Intro: “That’s Not Fair!”
- From childhood to culture, we struggle with what feels unfair.
- Critical Theories today often say guilt or privilege is inherite
- But God says: “The soul who sins shall die” (v.4)
→ Each person stands accountable before God.
→ God is both just and merciful.
1. The Soul Who Sins Shall Die (vv.1–4)
Key Idea: We are responsible for our own sins.
- Israel quoted a proverb to avoid responsibility.
- God ends the excuse: Every soul belongs to Him, and He judges justly.
Takeaways:
✅ We each stand personally accountable before God.
✅ Don’t confuse generational consequences with generational guilt.
2. The Lord Judges Individuals (vv.5–20)
Key Idea: Righteousness and wickedness are not inherited.
- God honors the righteous life (vv.5–9)
- God judges the wicked, even if their father was righteous (vv.10–13)
- God shows mercy to the one who turns from their family's sins (vv.14–20)
Takeaways:
✅ Godly parents can have ungodly children — and vice versa.
✅ Your background doesn’t define your future.
3. The Lord Desires Repentance (vv.21–24)
Key Idea: God’s heart is for sinners to turn and live.
- God doesn’t delight in punishment — He wants the wicked to turn.
- A chiasm highlights God’s desire for repentance (v.23 at the center).
- Past righteousness won’t save present rebellion.
Takeaways:
✅ No one is beyond the reach of God’s mercy.
✅ If this is God’s heart, it must be ours too.
4. The Soul Who Turns Shall Live (vv.25–32)
Key Idea: God’s justice is perfect — and His invitation is open.
- We often accuse God of injustice — but the fault is in us.
- God calls us to new hearts and new spirits.
- His final word is grace: “Turn and live!”
